St. Claude Gaol Museum

Spend time in a jail and get out free.

Come visit the only place in Canada where you can have fun in jail! Constructed in 1912-1913, the building which now houses the museum has been used for more than one purpose since then: jail, fire station, and storage place for recycling. Today, the building has been restored as a replica of what it was originally intended to be: the town jail. The museum will allow you to discover a part of the town’s past, as it has been designated a heritage site. You will learn what everyday life was like for the prisoners as well as the people who looked after them, and even have the opportunity to try on a prison uniform! The St. Claude Tourist Office is located at the rear of the building.
